Jobs for Life exists for the unemployed (and long term unemployed) to inspire hope and assist in the pursuit of finding fulfilling work. The course focuses on the why of work, dealing with a loss of purpose, as well as the hard skills required as a dependable employee. JfL is relatively new in Australia and is impacting lives and making a difference for those who are struggling to find employment. Students who attend the course, are able to:

  • Discover their interests and skills and match these with a career path
  • Develop a vocational plan, a resume and cover letter
  • Identify any obstacles or roadblocks they may have, and develop a plan to overcome them
  • Understand the importance of character (hard work, reliability, respect for authority, personal responsibility, teamwork).
  • Learn how to network, research, locate and secure a job
  • Learn how to stay employed and advance
  • Develop friendships and positive relationships on the journey
  • Develop self-discipline to reach their goals
  • Rediscover hope

From a past student: “It’s not just a course about finding a job, but dealing with where you’ve been, confronting that and finding a way to move forward.”

Jobs for Life is facilitated over a 9 week period (twice weekly classes of 2-3 hours) by Stairway Church Whitehorse. Courses are run 4 times a year during the school term (depending on student numbers), starting in the first or second week of term.
