The Gatwick Hotel has been for sale for a number of years. On 6 March, the current owners of the Gatwick Hotel announced their decision to close the Hotel. All current residents were advised of this by letter on 8 March 2017.
Following the announcement of the sale of the property, all residents have now been issued with Notices to Vacate within 60 days.
The owners have advised local services that they are no longer accepting any referrals. Can you please also advise relevant staff in your organisation of the Gatwick Hotel's closure. If there are other service providers in your network that make referrals to the Gatwick Hotel can you also pass on this advice to them as well.
The Department of Health and Human Services has commissioned St Kilda Community Housing to relocate all current residents. This is to help each resident find safe and stable housing and link them into their support services.
This will be a challenging time for residents, some of whom may be known to your organisation. We seek your assistance to support any residents known to you to move into safer and more stable housing.
The City of Port Phillip has convened the Rooming House Closure Working Group to oversee the closure and relocation process. This includes representatives of the following organisations; Alfred Health, Department of Health and Human Services, Inner South Community Health Service, Launch Housing, Ngwala, Port Phillip Housing Association, Sacred Heart Mission, Salvation Army Crisis Services, St Kilda Community Housing and Wintringham.
In addition, the City of Port Phillip are in the process of making arrangements to recognise the significant contribution of the current owners to supporting vulnerable people.
St Kilda Community Housing are on site at the Gatwick Hotel from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm weekdays to assist residents. Staff from St Kilda Community Housing are currently assessing each individual resident, identifying their support workers and securing an appropriate housing option. They will work with local agencies to develop plans for the housing and support needs of each individual resident and support their relocation.
