Friday Fines Day

  • Print
  • Email

Youthlaw is starting a new service for young people under 25 to get free legal advice on their unpaid fines.

In particular, we are targeting young people who received fines when they were experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, drug and alcohol addiction or if they have an intellectual disability or acquired brain injury.

The impact on young people of not dealing with fines can be significant including increasing fines, negative engagement with the legal system and enforcement actions (wheel clamping of cars, cancellation of driver licence and registration, seizure of assets and imprisonment).  In our experience, young people often don’t understand the law or where to go for help and the fines systems can be difficult to navigate.

WHEN:           Fridays 1pm – 5pm
WHERE:         Frontyard Youth Service - 19 King Street, Melbourne

Friday Fines Day will start in July 2014.
If you would like any further information, please call Youthlaw on 9611 6412.

Beyond 18

Beyond 18: The Longitudinal Study on Leaving Care is a long-term research project about the lives of young people in out-of-home care and their experiences of leaving care in Victoria. It is the first of its kind to be conducted in Victoria.

The purpose of the study is to inform government policy in supporting more effective transitions for young people from out-of-home care. In particular, it will aim to improve young people’s move towards interdependent relationships and eventual independence by:

  • Providing insights into the critical success factors associated with transition from out-of-home care

  • Proposing ways of enhancing out-of-home care

  • Proposing improvements in the transition from care

  • Proposing improvements post transition from care
